Curriculum Vitae

Picture
The doctor was born in Athens, Greece. He graduated from the Medical School of the University of Athens.

He was trained in Ophthalmology in the UK (The Conquest Hospital Hastings, Charing Cross Hospital London) and in Greece (Ophthalmology Department, University of Athens).

He did a fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery in Cheltenham General Hospital, Cheltenham, UK (1999-2000) with Mr Nigel Kirkpatrick.

Then a vitreoretinal fellowship followed in St Thomas’ Hospital, London, UK (2001) with Mr Alistair Laidlaw and Mr Tom Williamson. The same year he was appointed locum Consultant Vitreoretinal Ophthalmologist in Kent County Ophthalmic & Aural Hospital, Maidstone, UK. 

Then he did a vitreoretinal fellowship in Moorfields Eye Hospital, London, UK (2002) with Mr David Charteris and Mr Bill Aylward. 

In 2008 he finished his PhD.

From 2003 he is Consultant Ophthalmologist at the 2nd Ophthalmology Department of Henry Dunant Hospital.

He is a member of:

  • Hellenic Society of Intraocular Implant and Refractive Surgery
  • European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons
  • American Academy of Ophthalmology

He participates in the educational program of trainees in Ophthalmology organized by the Greek Ophthalmological Society as well as in the postgraduate courses of the Ophthalmology Department of the University of Patra.

He has taken part as main speaker in many scientific meetings and congresses in Greece and abroad as well as in meetings of general interest for the public (eg Soroptimism, New Ophthalmic Surgical Notes etc).

He is reviewer of Ophthalmology, the official journal of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, of Acta Ophthalmologica, of Graefe's Archive for Clinical and Experimental Ophthalmology, of International Ophthalmology and other peer review journals. He is also a member of the Editorial Board of Journal of Ophthalmology, a peer review, open access ophthalmological journal.

He has published many scientific papers in Greek and international journals and he has participated in the writing of ophthalmology books.
